Tapasya Gupta (b.1975) a self-taught sculptor, embodies a vivid imagination and a transformative approach to her art. Her creations, fashioned from materials such as fibreglass, metal, driftwood, stone, and wire, reflect an experimental and spontaneous methodology. With preparatory drawings serving as a foundation, her work evolves organically, driven by the material’s inherent life force, allowing her to guide it with a deeply symbiotic relationship between artist and medium.
Unconstrained by academic formalities, she navigates an array of techniques and materials with a self-reflective lens. Her personal journey, marked by life’s complexities, serves as an enduring muse, inspiring works that explore the concept of destiny with a wry humour that resonates deeply. Gupta’s sculptures, appreciated by art lovers, are a testament to her ability to blend multiplicity of thought and experience into a singular yet diverse artistic expression.
Tapasya holds an MBA degree from the Institute of Planning and Management and is a self-taught artist. She further refined her skills at Triveni Kala Sangam in Delhi. Tapasya has showcased her sculptures in prominent group exhibitions, including Artistgram at India Habitat Centre, Visual Arts Gallery, New Delhi (July 13-18, 2019), and "Shiffali Wadhawan and Tapasya Gupta" at India Habitat Centre, Visual Arts Gallery, New Delhi (August 14-18, 2018).
