Arpan Bhowlik (b. 1977) is a distinguished Indian artist from Kolkata, where he has immersed himself in the vibrant pulse of the city throughout his life. His artworks serve as a heartfelt homage to Kolkata’s bustling streets and iconic landmarks, capturing their essence and charm with meticulous detail.

Bhowlik’s artistic journey traverses a diverse range of themes, often exploring the interplay between tradition and modernity. His series offer poignant reflections on identity, memory, and societal change, skillfully blending realism with abstraction. His distinctive style features bold strokes and subtle texture using a primarily black and white palette with occasional pops of color, Bhowlik deftly portrays the city's beauty on canvas, evoking strong feelings of nostalgia and belonging. His technique, akin to watercolor in its fluidity, adds a dynamic quality to his works. Bhowlik’s oeuvre predominantly features monochromatic cityscapes, often highlighting specific elements such as taxis, trams, and monuments in vibrant hues. This contrast underscores the timelessness of historic structures amidst the flux of modern life. Particularly noteworthy is his "Memories in Monochrome" series, where he captures Kolkata and Mumbai’s essence through monochromatic palettes punctuated by vibrant accents.

Educated at the prestigious College of Art, Delhi, where he completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts (2001), Bhowlik honed his technical skills and developed a critical perspective on contemporary art practices. His works have graced solo and group exhibitions across prominent galleries in India and abroad, acclaimed for their thematic richness and artistic craftsmanship. His collections are highly coveted, residing in private and corporate collections worldwide. Among his numerous accolades, Bhowlik has received prestigious awards including the Governor's Award (Gold Medal) and the Academy Award in All India Annual Exhibition of Academy of Fine Arts, Calcutta. His versatility and artistic depth continue to mark him as a prominent figure in the contemporary art scene.
