Chandrashekhar Morkonda (b. 1989), a prominent painter from the serene temple town of Srikalahasti, Andhra Pradesh, draws profound inspiration from his upbringing steeped in cultural diversity and religious heritage. His artistic journey is a testament to his deep-rooted connection with the rural landscapes and spiritual ethos of his hometown, where narratives of faith and myth intertwine seamlessly.
Morkonda's artistic oeuvre is a technicolour exploration of Hindu mythology and cultural symbolism. Central to his work are themes of nature and divinity, particularly embodied through revered icons like the Kalpavriksha tree and the goddess Kali. His canvases resonate with vibrant hues and intricate textures, influenced by tribal art forms and the rich tapestry of his childhood memories. He blends traditional motifs with contemporary expressions, conveying sacred symbolism embedded in nature and religious iconography. By transforming everyday elements into representations of divine beings, he bridges the earthly and the divine realms, offering introspective reflections on cultural heritage through a rich tapestry of colors and textures.
Morkonda completed his Master of Fine Arts at Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan (2014), and his Bachelor of Fine Arts at JNTU Hyderabad (2011), earning recognition such as the State Award from Potti Sree Ramulu Telugu University, Hyderabad. His work has been showcased extensively at shows such as India Art Festival, Delhi (2017-2019), Art Revolution Taipei, Taiwan (2019), and solo exhibitions like "Kalpavriksha" at Forum Art Gallery, Chennai (2016) and "Kalpavruksha (VAHANA series)" in 2018. He has also participated in group exhibitions such as "Hyderabad Hues" at Art2day Gallery, Pune (2019), "In Search of Home" at Art Peepal, Kolkata (2019), and "Potpourri" at Samanvai Art Gallery, Jaipur (2018). Chandrashekhar Morkonda's paintings not only celebrate India's cultural essence but also reflect his personal and artistic evolution, capturing sacred spaces and metaphysical themes through his distinctive visual language.
