In moments of stress, Meiyappan seeks solace amid the serene beauty of nature – the iridescence of a stream in the morning light, the emerald leaves of trees, and the gentle whispers of swaying bamboos. This sanctuary, where urban anxieties fade, has become the canvas for his daily meditation practice. Surrounded by nature's expanse, he reflects and reconnects, finding inspiration to echo the quietude and serenity on his canvases, transferring the tranquility to others.
Meiyappan's art unfolds the journey of sunlight through bamboo groves, waterbodies, and forests, capturing the enchanting beauty and mystique of secluded woods. His work, rooted in spirituality, mirrors the divine in nature. Like the impressionists, he portrays the immediacy of moments, the fleeting nature of time, and the interplay of natural light. Through vibrant landscapes, he encapsulates the essence of changing seasons, forming a visual journal of sunlit contours and patterns. The tactile depth in his paintings, built with meticulous layering and palette knife techniques, intensifies the luminescence, creating vivid contrasts and enhancing detailed impressions. Meiyappan, an M.F.A. (Painting) graduate from the Government College of Arts & Crafts, Kumbakonam, draws inspiration from the rich art and architecture of Tamil Nadu, which profoundly influences his artistic journey. After a significant hiatus, he presents his recent paintings in this solo exhibition in Bangalore.
