Radhika Seksaria (b. 1970) is a prominent Indian artist based in Mumbai, known for her spiritually resonant and evocative paintings. Originally from Gorakhpur, her relocation to Mumbai marked a pivotal shift from family responsibilities to a devoted focus on her art, where she has meticulously captured the essence of everyday subjects using oils, acrylics and watercolors, infusing them with profound spiritual depth.
Seksaria’s artistic style intricately combines elements of Sufi spirituality and personal devotion, reflecting a deep connection with mysticism and divine love. Her work prominently features whirling dervishes and birds, embodying Rumi’s concept of ecstatic unity with the divine and symbolizing the free soul, resonating deeply with Rumi’s metaphorical imagery. Her early use of figurative techniques included depictions of spiritual symbols such as whirling dervishes, gods and goddesses, the Buddha, monks, and elements like bells and lotuses. This foundational approach laid the groundwork for her later works, which continue to incorporate these motifs. Her art also channels the influence of Meera Bai, whose fervent devotion to Krishna inspired ecstatic artistic expression. Similarly, Seksaria’s personal journey has transformed her passion for art into a profound pursuit, juxtaposing spiritual and material elements. Her acclaimed series, such as “Miraaya” and “Ruminations,” explore themes of spiritual reflection and feminine devotion. “Miraaya” celebrates the multifaceted nature of womanhood, drawing inspiration from Meera Bai’s devotional love, while “Ruminations” offers introspective reflections through dynamic forms and textures. Her forthcoming series, “Sukoon,” is set to evoke a sense of serene spiritual tranquility.
Seksaria holds a Bachelor in Fine Art from JJ School of Arts, Mumbai. Her career, spanning over 20 years, has been marked by international acclaim, including significant solo exhibitions like “Miraaya” and “Sukoon,” as well as notable group shows in London and Dubai. Her work is featured in esteemed collections, including that of Fara Ali Khan. Celebrated for its spiritual depth and aesthetic resonance, Seksaria’s art continues to captivate audiences globally, reflecting her ongoing exploration of spirituality through visual expression.
