Shuvendu Sarkar (b. 1978) is a distinguished artist based in Kolkata, India. Deeply influenced by Bengal's rich cultural heritage and his personal encounters with urban life, his work reflects a profound connection to his roots and the dynamics of contemporary society. Growing up in Chinsurah, a former Dutch colony, his art serves as a visual narrative of urban life's complexities and beauty, the interplay of light in historical settings, and a critical reflection on humanity's relationship with the natural world.
