Ananda Das (b. 1976) was born and raised in the cultural effervescence of Kolkata, the City of Joy. Immersed in the vibrant milieu of his surroundings, Das is a self-taught artist whose paintings are predominantly realistic and figurative, creating chiaroscuro that enhances the emotive depth of his compositions. His works express religious or mystical themes and embody a romantic spirit.

Das is lauded for his poignant realism and figurative prowess, prominently showcased in his acclaimed series such as "The Rickshaw Puller" and "Varanasi." His compositions eloquently capture the spiritual essence of Varanasi and the harmonious interplay between humanity and its ethereal environs. Employing a spectrum of mediums including watercolor, acrylic, oil, charcoal, and mixed media, Das masterfully wields charcoal and acrylic to breathe life into his subjects.

Finding his artistic sanctuary at the Bengal School of Arts, Das honed his skills amidst Bengal's rich artistic traditions. His pivotal collection "Icons and Illusion" marked a milestone, cementing his legacy in art history and highlighting his influence as both artist and mentor. Exhibitions at venues like the Academy of Fine Arts and Tai Bengal, Kolkata, from 1993 to 2010, showcased a diverse range of artworks, while participation in national exhibitions underscored his impact across India until 2009. Das received prestigious honors such as Gold Medals and scholarships for his work, solidifying his stature in the art world.
