Pradiptaa Chakraborty (b. 1979) was born in Malda Town, West Bengal. His inspiration comes from the rich cultural heritage of his home state, including literature, poetry, and street theatre. His personal experiences and the artistic environment of his formative years deeply influence his work. For Pradiptaa, painting is a vehicle for storytelling; his repertoire of images is culled from contemporary culture, personal experience, fantasy, mythology, and the popular imagery of films.
Pradiptaa's style is characterized by intricate compositions and multi-layered imagery, drawing heavily on the traditions of miniature paintings to create a mosaic of mythic analogies. His work requires equal measures of discipline, gesture, and expression to execute careful layerings of color, contour, and detail, featuring human figures, animals, and mythic symbols arranged in complex, mosaic-like patterns. Pradiptaa's paintings often subvert traditional notions of identity and form, providing a constant shifting visual experience. His well-known series include "Chronicle of Humanism," "Discipline and Devotion," and "Painting as a Vehicle." These series explore themes of human relationships, cultural interactions, and the blending of contemporary and traditional elements, creating a unique visual language.
