Swaraj Das (b. 1983) is an acclaimed painter and sculptor known for his individualistic approach and mastery of artistic expression, deeply rooted in Kolkata, India. With innate artistic talent that flourished from an early age, Das has crafted a distinguished career in Indian art, mirroring Shelley’s West Wind as he effortlessly captures the joy and essence of life on his canvases.

Das's artistry orchestrates the abstraction of life's experiences into visual poetry that exudes tranquility and hope. His work, a symphony of melting and overlapping colors, evokes a divine peace amidst chaos, finding the concrete within the abstract and the real within the unreal. Capturing various phases and moods, from bustling streets to the gentle morning light, Das uses transparent watercolors, acrylics, and oils to portray cities, villages, and their inhabitants, with shapes dissolving into formlessness and colors merging into harmony. Renowned for his impressionist Bridge layer style, he blends soft muted colors, strong light, and atmospheric moods, creating intricate designs marked by rhythmic movement and imaginative motifs. His sculptures, reflecting the color schemes and Indian motifs of his canvases, further enrich the visual narrative. By renewing and revitalizing India’s cultural roots, Das blends tradition with contemporary sensibilities. His depictions of lilies, with their delicate forms and vibrant hues, add an ethereal quality, symbolizing purity and leaving an indelible mark.

Educated at the Government College of Art & Craft, Kolkata, Swaraj Das has earned acclaim through numerous exhibitions across India and abroad. His solo debut at Triveni Kala Sangam, Delhi, marked the beginning of a trajectory celebrated in prestigious venues such as the India Habitat Centre and the Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. Internationally, his art has graced galleries from the Pennsylvania Watercolor Society’s State Museum to exhibitions across Europe and Asia, defining him as an artist who breathes life into the canvas, weaving narratives of serenity.
